Going “Viral”
Everyone wants to go viral, that's the goal isn't it?
Let’s not pretend we don’t.
We all secretly (or not so secretly) want that one post that explodes. Thousands of views. Comments flying in. New followers pouring through the door like it’s free Curry and Pint night down spoons.
But here’s the stinky truth:
Going viral will not help you if you’ve built nothing underneath.
Viral Is Just a Random Event - Not a long term Strategy
Let’s say you get that sweet sweet viral moment.
The algorithm fluffs you. People share it. You’re watching the view count like it’s a kebab shop menu at 2am.
And then?
Silence.
Because virality without substance is just noise.
And that big moment? It goes - fast - faster than that Kebab if there’s nothing for people to stick around for.
Here’s What Happens When You Go Viral Unprepared:
-
You get a massive, non-responsive audience who don't actually give a Gnat's nut sack about your stuff
-
Your inbox gets wrecked with bots, trolls, and spam
-
You feel pressure to repeat something you didn’t plan in the first place
-
You panic-post, throw crap at the wall hoping it sticks wanting to ride the wave - but you’ve got no system behind it
-
Engagement drops off, and it feels worse than before you went viral, back to the silent crying and asking your Mum to share again.
Build First. THEN Let It Pop One Off!
If you’re building with intention and a plan - real content, real community, real consistency - then going viral is a brucey bonus. Not a lifeline.
Your job is to make sure that when someone lands on your page, they see something worth staying for:
-
Clear voice
-
Clear value
-
Consistent message
-
Something they can connect with - and want to come back to
Without that?
Viral becomes just a stat you show your friends in a willy waving competition, not a turning point for your platform.
Ask Yourself:
-
If 50,000 people saw your page tomorrow, would they know what you’re about?
-
Would they know where to go next - what to click, follow, buy, engage with?
-
Do you even want all that attention right now? Or do you need to refine first?
Viral can be fun (online, real life not so much)
But it’s not your goal — traction is.
You’re not here for a moment.
You’re here to build something that grows when no one’s watching , not just when everyone is. (pun not intended, but yes I giggled too)
So post like 10 people care, Not 10,000
Be consistent. Build your core. It's Quality over Quantity.
Because when the viral moment does come — you’ll be ready to ride the wave
Stay Groovy
